Well, friends, my Spare Spike ice shoes have arrived and I am absolutely thrilled with them! Fortunately, (or is that unfortunately?), our extremely cold weather a few days ago did not have any precipitation with it, so I was not able to test these myself yet, but now I am finding myself looking forward to ice! I wonder if we have an ice skating rink around here? I want to do what that little boy did, and puzzle the skaters. :)
But seriously, these are really cool! I cannot tell if they are made of rubber or vinyl or ?, but whatever it is, it is very soft and pliable, and they have only a very slight scent that does not belie what they are made of, at least not to MY nose. They fold up nicely within themselves and fit in my small purse, or in a large coat pocket. They fit quickly over my generally tractionless Crocs and over
my suede Birkenstock sandals beautifully. Ok, I know I should not be wearing sandals or Crocs during an ice storm, but I do, so deal with it. :) If I was wearing high heels, which is an even nuttier shoe for ice, I could still slip these over them because there is a large opening in the sole for a large-heeled shoe. They slip back off very quickly for going back indoors.
The spikes don't look to be very sharp, but they are, so, don't wear them indoors on hardwood floors. I took the "spare" spike that is stored in the toe out to see how to replace a missing one in the sole, if it ever becomes necessary, and it is very easy to do.
I will keep these with me for emergency use to and from work when the ice storms cometh...and they sometimes hit with little warning in Texas...and I'll let y'all know when I find some ice to try these on.
Cheers!
