Review of the RACsuccess Package

The RACsuccess Package is a collection of 40 video clips and 2 informational guides for both buyers and coders of the Rent a Coder (RAC) website. It consists of a large variety of advanced topics to aid freelance businesses in getting the most out of their RAC experience. The RACsuccess Package is offered as a small download application, either as a free trial or as a full package.

I took a close look at this comprehensive informational package for Rent A Code, and was highly impressed.

Ease of Use

Navigation couldn't be easier! On the left side of the Welcome Screen, you choose GUIDE or VIDEO, and when you are on either of those screens, choose either BUYER or CODER from drop-down menu. How simple is that? And the exit button is large and visible when you are ready close the program.

Attractive Interface

Very attractive, and easy on the eyes. When you first launch the package, the welcome screen comes up in a very pleasing palette of two subtle shades of calming blue. However, you can just click on the SETTINGS button at the bottom left and you will be allowed to change the background and text colors of that window to any combination you want. Mine is dark orange with light yellow letters, I happen to like a bright sunny wake-up call.

Get Started Immediately after Purchase

After I received my link email, download was quick, just under 6 MB. When I installed it, I was delighted to see that I did not have to make any confusing installation decisions. Just let it load its own default configuration and it is done. All I had to do was click the icon on my desktop to start the program.

The Most Positive Things

One of the things I really like is that if I need to check another window, or if I have a chat coming in, I can click the window my tray and the RACsuccess Package will politely minimize and get out of my way. And, it will put my screen back to my usual working resolution. When I want to go back to the program, I just click the icon in the tray, just like any other program, and it pops right back up where I left off.

I also like the ability to search the videos by title. Ok, sure, so a specific video was easy to find, but how good are they? I have to say that they are superb. Not only are they varied in the information and tips presented, but they are also up-to-date with the latest information on how Rent A Coder works. The technical quality is consistent throughout all the clips, and they are all shown at an easily viewable full screen resolution of 1024x768, not the usual tiny 480x320 resolution you see with most website videos.

This brings me to another point...

The Most Negative Thing ... is a Good Thing!

I had heard that some people complained that the RACsuccess Package changes their screen resolution. This is true, it changes whatever your current display settings are to its own 1024 x 768 every time it opens, but only for the RACsuccess Package's purpose. This is actually good thing! It makes the experience of watching the videos more enjoyable because you actually get to watch the videos at almost full screen, allowing you see the details. Of course, your original screen resolution is always changed back to your original settings whenever you minimize or close the RACsuccess Package, so the effect is only temporary. When you then restore the RACsuccess Package or maximize it, your screen resolution is again set to 1024 x 768. The nice thing about this is that you don't need to have any control over what is happening with your screen resolution; the RACsuccess Package takes control of everything for you.

Book Review : "Shoestring Venture: The Startup Bible"

Originally posted on Amazon.com in November, but added here as an example of how I can write a review when I'm really excited about the product. And this book STILL excites me, so if you are in the market for a good resource, check this book out at the link in the title!


This is the first review I've ever done, but this book just totally floored me and none of my non-business friends understand why, nor do they care, so I thought I'd tell the people who DO care, since you're the ones interested in this topic and I'm bursting to tell somebody about this book!


I know you've heard this kind of statement before, but this book really does have it all! The table of contents wowed me from the beginning with all that it had to offer! From the importance of how to name your business and your website to designing a logo, to how to create a business plan to raise capital, get grants, finance the business, laws to be aware of, pitfalls to avoid (which are nicely placed in gray boxes throughout the book so you can't miss them), etc. Even various types of software that can help the process along the way. This is a resource that anyone considering a small business, or who already has a business that they are struggling with trying to keep going, needs to have on their bookshelf! Not only how to start your business, but how to keep it going once you've made the commitment. How to set up bill paying, productivity software for various fields, the rollout, manufacturing, staffing and hiring, when to use outsourcing and ecommerce are covered! Even how to use widgets to advertise! There are so many things in this book that I never thought of myself, that I can't think of anything that is not covered! And what isn't covered directly by the author, is covered by links to resources where that topic is covered in great detail by the experts in the field. The authors didn't just Google a few links and stick them in, they actually found expert resources.


It's not dry reading either. It did NOT put me to sleep! Even though it's not a book you have to read from cover to cover, I couldn't put it down! There was so much I never knew about! It is laid out in an easy to understand manner, in a chronology that is logical. I am really amazed at what I found, and it has given me the confidence to take my business plans to the next level and actually BE a business, even with my current limited resources (even that is covered!), instead of just a simple "here's my card, call me" type of freelancer that people don't take very seriously.


Seriously, if you have had even a minor inkling of an idea of starting your own business but have been afraid because you didn't know what it was you didn't know, or how to find out more about what you thought you knew, then this is the right book for you!
