DIY Article - How to Cast Your Own Custom Patio Blocks in Concrete

Summary:
If you are one of the 1000's of home owners who are planning to build a patio this year, you can do something a bit different from the old familiar brick or plain concrete patio and have a functional conversation piece during the months you use it and beyond. It is easily assembled from custom cast modular blocks and the texture is achieved by pressing a layer of course aggregate into the concrete while it is still wet.

First off, check with your local laws to see if you need a permit to add a patio and if there are any restrictions involved. Once you know what you are allowed to do, you can prepare the foundation to lay your blocks. There are many ways to prepare a patio foundation which are beyond the scope of this article, but basically, make sure that the site is level and properly prepared before laying your completed blocks.

Before you begin the actual work of casting the blocks, draw out your patio plan on a sheet of graph paper. Be sure it is complete with the sizes and shapes of the blocks you would like use, as well as the placement of the blocks to create the design. If you are also measuring with your graph paper, subtract 1/2 inch for the joint between each module for the mortar. You are not limited to rectangles and squares, but can use any shape that you feel you can build a form, or mold, for. But with just 3 different dimensions of rectangular blocks, there are hundreds of possibile ways to arrange them. For simplicity, this article will assume the blocks are rectangles.

DIY Article - Recipes for Cleaning Walls and Ceilings

Summary: Thanks to gravity, walls and ceilings escape the daily spills and footprints that leave their marks on floors and carpets, but walls and ceilings are by no means immune to dirt. Furniture that touches a wall; tobacco smoke; or visitors fumbling for light switches; can all smudge, scuff or cover those surfaces with a film of dirt that vacuuming or dusting cannot remove.

The type of covering on a wall or a ceiling will dictate the method used to clean it. Flat or enamel paints and vinyl or plastic-coated wallpapers are washable to some extent and can be cleaned with the solutions listed in this article. Depending on how they are made, wallpapers may be categorized as scrubbable or washable. If you do not know which kind you have, it is best to begin with a weak solution and a gentle sponging action. Paints vary in quality but the better ones usually last longer and can withstand a greater number of washings. The approximate life expectancy of most paints can be found on the can’s label.

DIY Article - How To Create Patio Walls From Decorative Concrete Blocks

Summary: Backyard privacy does not need to be an unattractive and solid windscreen, but it can be a beautiful and breezy decorative block wall. You can add it to an existing patio foundation as a wall, or build it on its own footing as a free-standing fence.

Note: If you are planning to build a wall or fence taller than 3 feet, you may need to get a building permit for it depending on where you live.

If you get off on the right foot with a proper foundation, your privacy screen will look fantastic. If you are not going to place your privacy wall on an existing concrete patio slab, you will need to create one specifically for the wall. This is done by simply digging a 10 inch wide by 7 inch deep trench that is the length of your proposed wall.

DIY Article - How to Clear a Clogged Drain

Summary: Household drains often become clogged without much warning and if you procrastinate, not only will the slow drain frustrate family members, but it could get worse. Just knowing what to do often has the problem half-licked before you even start.

The kitchen and bathroom sink traps are the usual locations in most homes that get clogged. In the bathroom, the problem is often due to hair, waste products, threads from fabrics washed or rinsed in the bathroom sink. In the kitchen, it can be from dish cloth threads, food particles, trimmings from greens, meat grease build up and other chance residues. In the laundry room, the utility sink could get clogged from just about anything from sand to sawdust to paint chips, depending on what someone decided to wash or rinse out from the garage or workshop. If you live in an area with "hard" water, lime deposits can form. All of these substances may build up over time and cause an obstruction that slows or stops the flow completely

DIY Article - Casting Your Own Garden Sculptures in Concrete

Summary: Every garden needs a focal point; something to draw the eye; something of interest other than plants. You can create your own personal concrete sculpture for just that purpose instead of using a tree or a shrub.

Don't worry about not being handy with mallets and chisels, though. This is so easy that all you need for tools will be just a few odds and ends and your fingers. Wood scraps, sand, cement mix and an iron rod are the basic materials.

Anything your imagination can conjure up is an apt subject for a free-standing garden sculpture, even an abstract shape if you'd like, but choose a shape that will be stable when it is sitting on its base The sculptures that this method produces have totally flat backs.

I'll use an Easter Island type of tiki face for the example, the back of which will be completely flat.

Before getting started, please be sure to wear gloves when working with either wet or dry cement.

DIY Article - How to Hang Plasterboard

Summary: Plasterboard, also known as wallboard, drywall, sheetrock or gypsum board, is the paper-covered, chalk-like panel material most commonly used to finish walls and ceilings in newly built or remodeled buildings. The joints where the panels meet are concealed with a special adhesive tape or a compound embedded paper tape, and the nail/screw heads are concealed with a special "mud" that, once dry, can be sanded, painted, stucco’d, wallpapered, or any of a number of modern wall treatments applied.

Hanging plaster board can be a bit daunting, but it’s easier than you might think. You just need to plan ahead and take a few things under consideration first.

DIY Article - How To Repair Cracked Plaster

Summary: Plaster is a very durable and good-looking wall treatment, but inevitably, it develops cracks of various sizes that are usually fairly easy to repair. In this article you will learn how to repair cracked plaster, from the tiniest hairline cracks to the larger ones that are actually easier to fix than the smaller ones are.

There are many kinds of cracks that can occur in plaster and the various sizes have special ways in which they need to be dealt with, but there is a very basic technique common to repairing all cracks. Do not be tempted to just use your finger and some spackle to repair a crack. It may look good at first, but the cracks tend to show up again after you paint because spackle tends to shrink when it dries.

DIY Article - How To Make Wall Plaster

Summary:
For most plaster uses, whether it be for patching or repairs, or building an entire plaster wall, modern wall plaster can be purchased as a dry pre-mix that you just add water to, and perhaps an aggregate or a fiber ingredient, if desired. But if you want to know how to make wall plaster yourself, here are some historical and traditional considerations.

DIY Article - How to Repair Plaster Walls

Summary: Plaster walls are much thicker and more durable than plasterboard walls and are commonly found in older homes built before World War II. Because the plaster is adhered to laths, which are narrow, thin pieces of wood that run between the studs, they are more likely to require special techniques when needing repair.

DIY Article - How to Remove Plaster Covering on Wall

Summary: To remove the plaster covering on a wall you need to determine how deeply the plaster is damaged. Before attempting to remove any plaster, make sure you have the following safety items available for your protection: safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs and a proper dust mask.

Reasons For Removal

There are many reasons for wanting to remove plaster covering a wall. The most common reasons are that it is either damaged in a few places that you would like to repair, or you are just tired of looking at plaster every day and want a different wall treatment. Be sure to take standard precautionary safety steps during the removal.

If your reason for removal is due to needing to repair damaged, stained or deteriorated areas, then the first step would be to scratch through the surface of the damaged plaster into the base coat with a sharp tool. If it takes considerable pressure to make a mark on the base coat, then the underlying plaster is can be left as it is and only the finish coat where the damage is needs to be patched.

How To Get Started With An Affiliate Program From RACsuccess

As many of you know, and some of you are just finding out, internet affiliate programs are a fantastic way of making extra money while doing nothing more than eating, sleeping, surfing the net and going out with friends. It's not a joke, it's not a hoax, and it’s not a scam. It's real money from real people for real products! It really is very simple to earn commissions by selling products through affiliate programs.

I've been in affiliate programs before and I have found them to be a wonderful way to earn hidden money. I call it "hidden money" because it feels so good to periodically "find" an unexpected windfall in my mailbox or bank account. It's like opening a Christmas present every month. You never know what is inside until you open that ClickBank notification that seems to scream out at your astonished eyes with "You've got money!!"

Well, I recently found an absolutely wonderful product that is being sold through online affiliates, and I got onboard as soon as I could! RACsuccess affiliate program offers people a whopping 55% out of each sale that they make as a RACsuccess affiliate. That's a heck of a great return on your investment - which is free to begin with! Most of the other affiliate programs I've run across only want to give you 10% to 30% of their sales and they may even charge you for a copy of what they are selling before you can sell it yourself.

But RACsuccess pays such a high commission rate because they want to have as many people as possible out there promoting their wonderful product. That way the word can get out to the most people. Since RACsuccess was created with a single purpose in mind - to help people to succeed on Rent A Coder - why not have thousands of success stories?

Did you know that, on average, 400-500 users from around the world create a new account with Rent a Coder nearly every day that need this product? And there are many other potential buyers and coders who have not even heard about Rent a Coder that you could invite to watch the free videos and then offer them the RACsuccess Package.

RACsuccess provides all the great tools you need to promote their RACsuccess Package easily, too, such as banners, images, articles, email letters, and much more. They even give you your own unique URL. You can then advertise that URL using your website, banners, your own opt-in list, etc. And then when people click through on it, you get paid a whopping commission on the sale of every RACsuccess Package - "Giving your business the edge on Rent a Coder"!!

ClickBank also provides you with ways to track your hits, sales, campaigns, and commissions. All you need is a free ClickBank affiliate ID, which there is a link to on the RACsuccess site to make it easy for you. ClickBank will even credit you for sales even if your buyer does not buy on the first day they look at the link. So even if they come back years later, you still get paid, if your URL was the last affiliate link that referred that customer to them.

Since Rent A Coder is undoubtedly today's most important meeting place for doing business between coders and buyers, the RACsuccess Package will help users utilize Rent a Coder to its full potential and to their best advantage. Who wouldn't be interested in purchasing a product if it can help them become more successful in their line of work?

Don't miss the opportunity with this extraordinary product which will bring you 55% of commission per sale. Sign up for your affiliate account today, and start spreading the word...and the wealth!

Review of the RACsuccess Package

The RACsuccess Package is a collection of 40 video clips and 2 informational guides for both buyers and coders of the Rent a Coder (RAC) website. It consists of a large variety of advanced topics to aid freelance businesses in getting the most out of their RAC experience. The RACsuccess Package is offered as a small download application, either as a free trial or as a full package.

I took a close look at this comprehensive informational package for Rent A Code, and was highly impressed.

Ease of Use

Navigation couldn't be easier! On the left side of the Welcome Screen, you choose GUIDE or VIDEO, and when you are on either of those screens, choose either BUYER or CODER from drop-down menu. How simple is that? And the exit button is large and visible when you are ready close the program.

Attractive Interface

Very attractive, and easy on the eyes. When you first launch the package, the welcome screen comes up in a very pleasing palette of two subtle shades of calming blue. However, you can just click on the SETTINGS button at the bottom left and you will be allowed to change the background and text colors of that window to any combination you want. Mine is dark orange with light yellow letters, I happen to like a bright sunny wake-up call.

Get Started Immediately after Purchase

After I received my link email, download was quick, just under 6 MB. When I installed it, I was delighted to see that I did not have to make any confusing installation decisions. Just let it load its own default configuration and it is done. All I had to do was click the icon on my desktop to start the program.

The Most Positive Things

One of the things I really like is that if I need to check another window, or if I have a chat coming in, I can click the window my tray and the RACsuccess Package will politely minimize and get out of my way. And, it will put my screen back to my usual working resolution. When I want to go back to the program, I just click the icon in the tray, just like any other program, and it pops right back up where I left off.

I also like the ability to search the videos by title. Ok, sure, so a specific video was easy to find, but how good are they? I have to say that they are superb. Not only are they varied in the information and tips presented, but they are also up-to-date with the latest information on how Rent A Coder works. The technical quality is consistent throughout all the clips, and they are all shown at an easily viewable full screen resolution of 1024x768, not the usual tiny 480x320 resolution you see with most website videos.

This brings me to another point...

The Most Negative Thing ... is a Good Thing!

I had heard that some people complained that the RACsuccess Package changes their screen resolution. This is true, it changes whatever your current display settings are to its own 1024 x 768 every time it opens, but only for the RACsuccess Package's purpose. This is actually good thing! It makes the experience of watching the videos more enjoyable because you actually get to watch the videos at almost full screen, allowing you see the details. Of course, your original screen resolution is always changed back to your original settings whenever you minimize or close the RACsuccess Package, so the effect is only temporary. When you then restore the RACsuccess Package or maximize it, your screen resolution is again set to 1024 x 768. The nice thing about this is that you don't need to have any control over what is happening with your screen resolution; the RACsuccess Package takes control of everything for you.

And there you have it! A nutshell review of the best program on the market for giving buyers and coders the inside edge on working in Rent A Coder.

It's just one secret, but it completely shows you how you can avoid formal arbitration! And believe me; I want to keep my current 100% rating.

Free Videos Saved My Freelance Life

Like many people just starting out in the freelance work-at-home business, I really had no concept of where to even begin in my search for a way to make some extra money doing something I enjoy.

A new co-worker at my day job saved the day when she told me about Rent A Coder (RAC) as her way of surviving the bills until she could land a regular day job. She said that RAC was a lot better than other similar sites she had tried for getting web design jobs, so I decided to join it to look for video and voice-over work. Well, I was immediately overwhelmed by all the detailed links; the reams of information to read; and all those project history statistics that are presented in the multiple page descriptive profiles of everyone on RAC. But then, I'm easily confused under the right circumstances. There is so much to click on, so much to read; so much to learn; so many links and so little time. I thought I'd NEVER get it all figured out.

Well, after a couple of days of randomly clicking links on the site in desperation, I swallowed my pride and asked for help. I appealed to my new co-worker while on break to please give me a brief explanation of how Rent A Coder worked and that was when she pointed me to the FREE videos on RACsuccess that show how to navigate the Rent A Coder website and how to utilize its many useful tools.

When I got home that night, I checked out RACsuccess. I was amazed to find over 40 instructional videos that walked me through every major link on the site. In fact, I was so grateful for what she had shared with me that I bought her lunch the next day! In the time it took to watch a few videos, my eyes were opened to the whole new world of freelancing at Rent A Coder. Now when I need to know how to do something at RAC, the first place I look is on the FREE video page at RACsuccess. The videos are even neatly categorized so you can find what you are looking for quickly. So far, I have been able to find everything I was looking for easily.

When you sign up for the free videos, you also get a FREE 14-page report called: "Formal arbitration and how to avoid it" which can help keep you out of trouble even before you bid on your first project. It's a must read!

By the way, my co-worker has not been much help to me since that time. A few days after she told me about Rent A Coder and the free RACsuccess videos, she left my company to start work on a long term freelance project she'd found on Rent A Coder. If I had known sooner how to navigate RAC as well as she did, maybe I would have had seen that job in time to bid on it myself. Oh, well... I'll beat her next time.
